About this grant

Funds permanent conservation of large-scale habitats for fish, wildlife, and plants through voluntary land acquisitions and perpetual conservation easements. Projects should protect significant acreage, expand wildlife connectivity, provide public access to nature, and support local economies dependent on natural resources. Grants support the purchase price of land or easements and run for up to three years.

Full proposal (by invitation only, due December 2, 2026)
Detailed digital Shapefiles delineating land proposed for conservation (full proposal stage only)
General Budget Narrative including total purchase price, expected expenses, and sources of revenue
Letters of support from agencies, organizations, and community partners
Description of transaction structure and acquisition disposition
Project metrics selected from Easygrants program metrics list
Letters of support from Congressional representatives if requested by NFWF

Eligibility

Must be a non-profit 501(c) organization, state government agency, local government, municipal government, Tribal government or organization, or educational institution
U.S. Federal government agencies, businesses, unincorporated individuals, and international organizations are ineligible
All acquisition documents (appraisals, title reports, environmental hazard assessments, mineral rights assessments, surveys) must be available for NFWF staff review
Minimum 1:1 match of cash or contributed goods and services required
Grant funds may only be applied to the property's purchase price
Fee transfer or perpetual conservation easement must qualify for 'conservation purposes' as defined by IRC Section 170(h)
Project start dates must be no later than six months following the award announcement
Projects may not use drones or UAS included on the Covered Foreign Entities (CFE) List for federally funded activities
