About this grant

Supports nonprofit organizations providing civil legal aid services to low-income Illinois residents, including legal information, self-help assistance, mediation, telephone advice, and direct civil legal assistance. Programs focus on helping people access basic needs, protecting domestic violence victims, recovering funds for seniors victimized by fraud, and resolving family crises.

Completed grant application submitted via IEJF grantee portal (available June 26, 2026)
FY27 Organizational Assurance (OA) Application
Separate application for each funding category if applying to more than one
Fee schedule (if organization charges fees for legal services)
Mid-term report due March 29, 2027 (for current grantees)

Eligibility

Must be tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code
Must provide services to Illinois residents in one or more of the five eligible program areas
Must provide services to low-income people free of charge or on a sliding scale based on income (up to 150% of federal poverty guidelines)
Applicants who charge fees for legal services must provide IEJF with a copy of their fee schedule
Legal information for the public, self-help legal assistance, and mediation services must be provided free of charge
Must submit an up-to-date FY27 Organizational Assurances (OA) application via IEJF's Foundant grantmaking software
