About this grant

A competitive, statewide reimbursement grant program that funds research projects to advance understanding of harmful algal blooms (HABs), their causes, and effective mitigation strategies in New York State. Supported research focus areas include prevention and mitigation, causes of HABs, monitoring and modeling, and communication and outreach. The program expands research capacity and fosters collaboration among a broad range of research partners throughout the state.

Eligibility

Governmental entities: municipalities (counties, cities, towns, villages), improvement districts, municipal corporations, soil and water conservation districts, and recognized Indian nations or tribes with a reservation in New York State
Academic institutions: educational institutions dedicated to education and research that grant higher education academic degrees (for-profit academic institutions are not eligible)
Not-for-profit corporations (NFP), community-based organizations, or community-based organizations partnering with a NFP as fiscal sponsor
Match is required at a rate of 10% of the award amount
