About this grant

Supports community-based nonprofit organizations that provide direct emergency assistance to Rhode Islanders in need. Funded programs include food pantries, clothing distribution, housing and rental assistance, utility assistance, prescription assistance, transportation support, and childcare assistance for homeless families. Priority is given to volunteer-based organizations with minimal operational budgets.

Eligibility

Must be a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization located in Rhode Island
Does not fund individuals, indirect costs, scholarships, capital or endowment efforts, fundraising events, or campaigns to elect candidates to public office
Faith-based organizations eligible only for secular programs or projects
For established programs, Basic Human Needs grant funding cannot be the only source of funding
Does not support distribution of products or services to other nonprofits
Organizations are eligible to receive only one Basic Human Needs grant per year
