About this opportunity
This foundation provides grants ranging from $100,000 to $500,000 to 501(c)(3) nonprofits for the new construction or rehabilitation of permanent supportive housing for veterans. Eligible organizations must have at least five years of IRS good standing, an operating budget of at least $300,000, audited financials, and experience in veteran housing. Projects must reserve at least 20% of units for veterans, commence within 12 months, and provide supportive services. Funding is available nationwide, with priority for large cities, and must be used for hard construction costs only. Proposals require a third-party binding agreement ensuring veteran occupancy for 15 years.
Eligibility requirements
501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations in good standing with IRS for at least 5 years
Operating budget of at least $300,000 and audited financial statements from past 3 years
Previous experience developing and managing veteran housing
15+ year ownership stake in the development
Involvement in Continuum of Care or local collaboration to end homelessness
Projects must be new construction or rehabilitation of multifamily, permanent supportive housing for veterans
THDF funding must be less than 50% of total development cost
Target population: honorably discharged veterans at or below 80% AMI
75% of funding sources identified at proposal submission
Project must commence within 12 months of proposal submission
At least 20% of units reserved for veterans
Evidence of third-party binding agreement for 15-year veteran occupancy
Supportive services must be provided
