About this opportunity
This grant is for nonprofit organizations and government entities across the United States for projects that make communities more livable, especially for people age 50 and older. Funding supports tangible improvements, innovative pilots, and demonstrations in areas such as public spaces, transportation, housing, digital connections, and disaster resilience. Capacity-building microgrants include added support like coaching and resources.
Eligibility requirements
Applicants must be 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), or 501(c)(6) nonprofit organizations recognized by the IRS, government entities, or other types of organizations considered on a case-by-case basis.
Projects must benefit residents, especially those age 50 and older, and align with AARP’s mission.
Projects must deliver tangible community improvements, demonstrations, or innovative programming pilots/services.
For-profit companies and individuals are not eligible.
Projects must not include partisan, political, election-related activities, planning/assessments without engagement, studies with no follow-up, publication of books/reports, land/building acquisition, purchase of vehicles/mechanical equipment, sponsorship of other organizations’ events, R&D for ventures, or promotion of for-profit entities.
How to apply
Complete application submitted through the AARP Community Challenge Application Portal by March 4, 2026, 5 pm ET.
Signed grant agreement and eSupplier vendor registration if selected.
Projects must be completed by December 15, 2026, with after-action reports due by December 31, 2026.
What you get
Grant funding between $2,500 and $25,000 depending on grant type.
Capacity-building microgrants include additional support such as webinars, cohort learning, coaching, and AARP resources.
