About this opportunity
This grant is for organizations serving Los Angeles, Imperial, Riverside, San Bernardino, or Ventura Counties in California, with priority for those based in and serving Los Angeles County. Grants are available for general operating support, program support, and capital projects (the latter restricted to Los Angeles County). Eligible organizations must be in good standing with California state agencies and have not received a grant from the Foundation in the past three years. The minimum request for capital grants is $100,000. The Foundation funds a range of sectors, including arts, civic affairs, education, environment, health, and social services. Applications begin with a Letter of Inquiry submitted through the Foundation's online portal.
Eligibility requirements
Must be a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization
Must provide services in Los Angeles, Imperial, Riverside, San Bernardino, or Ventura County (California)
Priority given to organizations based in and serving Los Angeles County
Must be in good standing with the California Franchise Tax Board and California Registry of Charitable Trusts (with both boxes 1 and 3 checked on the California Entity Status Letter)
Cannot have received a grant from the S. Mark Taper Foundation in the past three calendar years
Organizations with fiscal sponsors are eligible
Local branches of national nonprofits are eligible if serving eligible counties
Organizations with recent or upcoming CEO/Executive Director changes (within 12 months) are ineligible
Organizations with loans to/from board members or executive staff are ineligible

Submit a Letter of Inquiry (LOI) via the online portal
Upload a California Entity Status Letter (generated within 30 days of LOI submission)
Additional supporting documentation as specified in LOI forms
