This residency offers a year-long room-and-board residency in Manhattan, New York City, for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) working to end systemic racism and promote intersectional equality. Open to artists, activists, writers, performers, social entrepreneurs, and graduate students, the residency supports projects in the arts, policy, community organizing, and related fields. Residents receive housing, meals, and community support, and are expected to participate in communal life and share their work with the local community. The residency does not provide a stipend but covers living expenses and offers limited studio access. Applications are open until March 15, 2026, for the 2026-2027 cycle.
Eligibility requirements
Applicant must be Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Color (BIPOC)
Must have a strong project addressing ending systemic racism and/or intersectional equality
Must demonstrate a need to live in Manhattan, New York City for up to one year
Must be able to reside full-time at Penington Friends House (PFH)
Must be willing to participate in community life, including shared meals and light chores
Project areas can include arts, policy change, human rights, community organizing, activism, or related fields
Work should align with Quaker values (Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality, Stewardship)
Must be able to live in a 4th floor walk-up (no elevator)
